About the conference

This event is open to Special Education High School students in grades 10-12 as well as parents, guardians, and other interested parties residing in Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan and Tioga counties. We will be providing speakers and breakout sessions on the following pathways: Postsecondary Education and Training, Employment, and Community Engagement.

The registration fee is $10 per participant, lunch will be provided.

Amber Logan is a 2005 graduate of Montoursville Area High School and has a diverse ability. Amber loves to share her story about her transition from High School to the real world and has had the opportunity to do so at the capital in Harrisburg. Amber's goal is to bring encouragement and hope to others as she talks about her successes and difficulties in the community and in obtaining employment. She will also share with you what her "everyday life" looks like now and what it took to get there.

Introduction to OVR Informational session on services offered by OVR and the Early Reach Initiative.
Technology for Our Whole Lives A look into TechOWL's Lending Library and all of the other assistive technology resources available to Pennsylvanians of any age.
Financial Aid: 2021-22 and Beyond Learn the basic steps needed to get the most out of federal and state financial aid options and the timeframe in which to do so. We will review the applications to be completed and explain the different types of aid available.
Financial Literacy for College Students Learn the basics about overspending and budgeting, debit vs credit cards, how to save money, identity theft, and loan debt and repayment.
What Does it Take to be a College Athlete at the Various Levels A brief description of the 3 levels that the NCAA provides for College bound student-athletes and what the differences are between the 3 levels.
The Essentials of Building Relationships Learn about the characteristics of healthy relationships, healthy communication techniques, and how to establish and maintain healthy relationships.

Career Exploration – Planning Your Future Students will discuss the importance of finding the right career direction by a guided exploration and identify ways they can explore careers independently.

Difference Between High School & College: Rights and Responsibilities Gain an understanding of the rights, responsibilities and accommodations / services available at the college level for students with disabilities.
Military Service Opportunities An overview of the opportunities and benefits available by serving in any of the United States Military branches.
Strength Finder- Maximizing the Success of Transitioning Youth We live in a digital age where media influences many things about how we see ourselves. In this workshop we will get back to basics on our identities, and how this plays such a crucial role in our success, we have all been given amazing gifts, and we will be discussing how to unlock and unveil them so we can reach our fullest potential. I will give you the tools to influence, and nurture our greatest kept secret- our strengths!
Inclusive Post-Secondary Opportunities at LHU Lock Haven University plans to start offering a 4-year non-degree certificate program for young adults with an intellectual disability in Fall 2021. This session will provide you with a brief overview of the program and discuss details regarding the inclusive academic and social opportunities that will be available at the university. The goal of the non-degree certificate program is to provide young adults with an intellectual disability enhanced skill development to promote meaningful, competitive employment.

Navigating the System Navigating the Intellectual Disability system for transitioning students
Strong Visions and High Expectations for an Everyday Life What is your vision for life after high school? How do you want to spend your leisure time and be involved in your local community? Come to this session and learn how having strong visions and high expectations for yourself can help your transition.
Supports Brokering: The Next Generation of Supports Learn how Participant Directed Supports & Services allows people with disabilities to control their lives by hiring & managing their workers, deciding what their day looks like, as well as where they live through Supports Brokering.
Legal Concerns in Transitioning to Adulthood An overview of legal considerations that impact transition into adult systems including Powers of Attorney, Guardianship, Special Needs Trusts, SSI, SSDI, ABLE Accounts, and MAWD.

Community Participation Community participation support provides opportunities and support for community inclusion and building interest in and developing skills and potential for competitive integrated employment. Services should result in active, valued participation in a broad range of integrated activities that build on the participant’s interests, preferences, gifts and strengths while reflecting his or her desired outcomes related to employment, community involvement and membership.

Move More, Sit Less Learn how to incorporate a workout with minimal to no equipment, at home, in as little as 20 minutes. Physical activity attire for participation will make this event more comfortable and enjoyable.
